Water & Wastewater
Water and Wastewater systems consume three percent of all of the electricity in the US. They are usually the most expensive part of local government to operate and maintain. The EPA has estimated that over $500 billion will need to be invested over the next 20 years to replace aging infrastructure.
Combined with other competing budget issues, local governments are strained to find ways to manage their water and sewer systems efficiently, while fulfilling infrastructure improvement needs. Performance Contracting can help you tackle these issues. Using a design-build delivery model combined with convenient financing, many of the most common repair and modernization projects can be completed. Our goal is to help you get the urgent and important projects done – easily and with confidence.
The most common reasons why municipal utilities have chosen a Performance Contracting
project with ESG are:
- The most convenient way to accomplish major construction projects
- Financial assurance of project cost
- Peace of mind from working with quality contractors and manufacturers
- Reduced energy and operational expenses providing the lowest overall life cycle costs
Automated Meter Reading/Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Automated Meter Reading (AMR), or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), allows water utilities to gather utility usage data from its customers, both residential and commercial, without manually reading meters. The utility improves services and saves money by minimizing the costs associated with reading individual residential and commercial meters while allowing more time to do other required maintenance activities. In addition, Automated Meter Reading/Advanced Metering Infrastructure improves data accuracy and helps identify anomalies.
Energy System Group provides turn-key supply and implementation solutions utilizing all major Automated Meter Reading/Advanced Metering Infrastructure systems. We work with each municipal client to design an optimal system, evaluate existing meters and implement comprehensive infrastructure improvements to replace aging water meters with new meters and/or wireless transmitters. Meter readers gather usage data either with a drive-by system or a fixed-base system (a fixed-base system is a great application for a municipality with a municipal WiFi environment). The information is automatically uploaded which makes bills more accurate and timely. Utilities can use the data to spot anomalies which can indicate:
- Potential system leaks
- Potential leaks at customer sites
- Damaged or broken meters
Improved and more efficient meter reading operations utilizing AMR/AMI technologies can help municipalities conserve water, improve customer service and reliability, maximize capital budgets, protect property, preserve system capacities and reduce operating costs.
Every client's situation is unique. Contact us to find out if ESG can help you improve your infrastructure and reduce your total cost of operations.
