Modernizing Critical Infrastructure to Deliver Reliable, Efficient Operations
ATLANTA, GEORGIA
The Atlanta University Center Consortium faced aging central utility infrastructure that struggled to serve more than 50 campus buildings, resulting in constant maintenance demands, operational inefficiencies, and a risk of service disruptions. Additionally, limited system capacity and outdated steam and chilled water distribution reduced reliability and hindered future campus growth, requiring a long-term solution to modernize critical infrastructure and improve performance.

Innovative Solutions
We delivered a comprehensive Central Utility Plant modernization, upgrading distribution infrastructure, replacing aging equipment, and implementing high-efficiency systems to improve reliability, increase capacity, and support long-term campus growth.
Engineered, designed, and installed over three miles of underground piping to improve steam and chilled water distribution and increase reliability across campuses.
Completed campus-wide piping distribution with minimal disruption to maintain normal campus operations while upgrading critical infrastructure.
Connected the renovated Central Utility Plant to five major buildings, with capacity for future expansion to support campus growth and long-term infrastructure needs.
Replaced three aging boilers with two new gas boilers, one electrode boiler, and a 1,300-ton chiller to improve efficiency, reliability, and system performance.
Delivered high-efficiency plant operations with a 20-year performance commitment to ensure long-term reliability, operational savings, and reduced maintenance demands.
Improved Reliability Across Campuses
Modernized utility infrastructure ensures consistent steam, heating, and cooling for more than 50 buildings.
Long-Term Cost & Energy Savings
The project delivers $5.6 million in savings and 15 million kWh in annual energy reductions.
