Creating High-Performance Learning Environments
GALLOP, NEW MEXICO
Gallup-McKinley County Schools faced aging HVAC systems that could no longer provide reliable comfort, creating strain on the district’s maintenance team and impacting the indoor learning environment. Many facilities suffered from inefficient lighting, building envelope leaks, and outdated electrical infrastructure, which drove up energy costs and limited the district’s ability to integrate modern systems.

Innovative Solutions
We conducted an Investment Grade Audit (IGA) at four schools to uncover strategic, long-term solutions. The result: a tailored set of improvements that upgraded building performance and created more comfortable, reliable learning spaces for students and staff.
Installed 3,000 tons of high-efficiency HVAC equipment at 9 schools to improve indoor air quality and provide reliable, comfortable learning environments.
Unified HVAC control systems across 9 schools to streamline operations, reduce maintenance demands, and ensure consistent temperature management.
Upgraded 3,300 lights to LED technology to enhance visibility in classrooms and reduce energy consumption.
Remediated building envelope leaks to minimize energy loss, improve comfort, and protect facilities from weather impacts.
Installed 12 high-efficiency, low-voltage transformers to improve electrical reliability and reduce wasted energy.
Upgraded electrical infrastructure to support modern systems, improve safety, and prepare for future technology needs.
Installed a 125kW DC solar carport to generate renewable energy while providing shaded parking for staff and visitors.
IMPROVED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Installation of high-efficiency HVAC systems and LED lighting created more comfortable, reliable, and well-lit spaces that directly support student focus and success.
SIGNIFICANT Energy & COST SAVINGS
The project delivered over $80,000 in annual O&M savings, $159,600 in incentives, while cutting energy consumption by 35%.
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
Unified HVAC controls, upgraded electrical infrastructure, and new transformers reduced maintenance burdens, streamlined operations, and prepared facilities for future technology needs.
