Advancing Sustainability Through Energy Efficiency

WESTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY

Western New Mexico University (WNMU) faced significant financial challenges in renovating Harlan Hall due to insufficient state funding. Additionally, high utility costs and operational inefficiencies across the campus further strained the university’s budget. WNMU partnered with Yearout Energy, now Energy Systems Group, through an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) to implement cost-saving measures and optimize infrastructure investments.

Innovative Solutions

We developed and executed a strategic energy efficiency plan, leveraging guaranteed utility savings to close funding gaps for the Harlan Hall renovation.

Facility Upgrades:

Complete overhaul of electrical and mechanical systems at Harlan Hall to improve energy efficiency and support modern building operations.

Upgraded approximately 8,500 lighting fixtures to LED to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Installed 420 kW DC of new solar photovoltaic carport to provide renewable energy and lower the university’s carbon footprint.

Upgraded domestic water fixtures and irrigation controls to optimize water usage and promote conservation.

Upgraded kitchen ventilation controls to enhance energy efficiency in food service operations.

Upgraded over 1,500 kVA of low-voltage transformers to high-efficiency units to reduce energy waste and improve power distribution.

Remediated over 140 square feet of leaks in building envelopes to enhance insulation and reduce heating and cooling losses.
